Kingston Valance

One of the trendiest valance styles today is the kingston style valance.  This valance can be board mounted or mounted on decorative hardware.

The kingston style is an updated variasion of a swag.   This style valance lends itself well to both informal or formal rooms.  For a formal look select formal fabric, formal tassel trim and exquisite hardware. If you desire an informal look, choose fabric and hardware with a casual feel.

Curtains vs. Draperies

These two terms are not interchangeable, at least not to Americans. Consider that curtains are a less formal choice than draperies- they are typically lighter, shorter and more frilly.  Draperies utilize heavier fabrics, and are lined to protect their
beautiful colors and patterns from the sun’s damaging rays.  While both curtains and draperies may employ the use of trims and tassels, the trim on a curtain will typically be a small band of color, short brush or ball fringe or perhaps a tiny row of beads.  A drapery on the other hand may employ heavier trim, tassels, braided cord, and possibly tassel tiebacks.

Designer Curtains

An ebony table and white upholstered benches turn a kitchen nook into an elegant spot for meals. To soften the formal look, gingham covers the shade and trims the curtains, and matching ribbon crisscrosses padded walls to hold photos of family vacations. A curved edge to the shade offers a subtle counterpoint to all the straight lines.
